Panama malaria endemic

Twelve cases of falciparum malaria have been detected in the last few weeks in the Province of Darien.
Minister of Health, Franklin Vergara, says that those affected are all members of the National Police Force and that this happens every year.
Malaria is an endemic disease in Panama and the falciparum variety has particularly severe symptoms. It is female mosquito-borne infectious disease and can cause severe headaches, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, body aches, enlarged spleen and liver and mild jaundice in uncomplicated cases. Complicated cases can lead to death.
