Africa Fighting Malaria Updates and Events
Africa Fighting Malaria (AFM) seeks to raise awareness of the huge burden of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa and promote sensible policies for long-term solutions.

The University of the Witwatersrand has announced the formation of the Wits Research Institute for Malaria, (WRIM), strengthening research into one of Africa's deadliest diseases. 
 
WRIM is headed jointly by Professor Maureen Coetzee and Professor Thérèsa Coetzer in the Wits School of Pathology.

Two medical practitioners in Lagos, on Monday called on the Federal Government and the regulatory bodies to check the importation of fake anti-malaria medicines into Nigeria. 
 
The need for new malaria surveillance tools and strategies is critical, given improved global malaria control and regional elimination efforts. High quality Plasmodium falciparum DNA can reliably be extracted from malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs).
