TUBERCULOSIS: Arkansas

Little Rock - All inmates and the staff at the Arkansas Department of Correction's Tucker Unit are being tested for tuberculosis. The testing comes after one inmate tested positive last week for the disease that can be fatal if not treated. Health officials say the disease typically attacks the lungs — but can affect any part of the body. Prison officials are also trying to find recent parolees and are testing inmates transferred from the prison since January who may have had contact with the inmate.
The affected inmate is hospitalized. His name has not been released. Prison spokeswoman Dina Tyler says the man is 59 and has been in prison since 2001 and is serving 20 years
