Oct 9, 2010 WASHINGTON Oct 9 (Reuters) - World Bank chief Robert Zoellick said on Saturday that failure by donors to give fresh resources to a fund for poor countries would be a major setback for the global fight against poverty.
The World Bank is currently in negotiations with donor countries to replenish its International Development Association (IDA) fund, which provides grants and low-cost development loans to poor nations.
"Lack of support for IDA would devastate the effort to try to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. What was really clear to me at the recent UN meeting was that it's critical not to see these goals as independent, but to connect the dots that show their inter-relationship," Zoellick said the end of meetings with member countries.
