GLOBAL FUND: Nigeria: grants frozen

A major foreign financier of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria activities in Nigeria, The Global Fund has temporarily frozen grants to one of its principal recipients in the country, Yakubu Gowon Centre for alleged misappropriation of funds, Daily Trust reports
In a report filed before the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission by the Global Fund, the Yakubu Gowon Centre is alleged to have illegally transferred funds outside the country amounting to $15.5million, incurred extra budgetary expenditures of $5.2million and has undocumented fund amounting to $3million.The centre which was established to honour former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon has been in existence since 1992, embarking on programmes to reduce poverty and fight diseases....
