June 25, 2011 YEREVAN. - Several hundred tuberculosis cases have been registered in Armenian army in the past but throughout recent years the figure dropped to two dozens, said representative of National Program for TB Control Narine Mezhlumyan at Stop TB Together seminar in Yerevan on Saturday.
She said that a tuberculosis diseased person is not recruited into the army, and in case he catches the sickness in the army, he shall be freed from service.
Referring to penitential institutions, the expert marked that they registered 45 TB cases in 2010.
The cost of treatment for one patient amounts to $5,000 annually and all the expenses are covered by the state. For example, 629 patients with pulmonary and bone tuberculosis and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract have been treated in Dilijan clinic in 2010.
