ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (KABC) -- When an Orange County man was hospitalized with tuberculosis the day before his wedding, the couple decided to press ahead with the ceremony - over Skype.
For Samuel Kim and Helen Oh, their wedding is one to remember - Kim was in isolation in a hospital room, while Oh stood at the altar alone.
Eyewitness News talked with the Orange County couple Wednesday via video-conferencing, just like their wedding, because Kim remains quarantined.
They were set to exchange their vows on Saturday in front of more than 500 family and friends who had flown in from around the world. But on Friday, things took a sudden turn when Kim learned he had tuberculosis and couldn't leave the hospital.
When someone suggested using Skype to tie the knot, the couple knew that was the answer.
Oh and the hundreds of guests continued with the white wedding at the church, as Samuel and his groomsmen carried on from his hospital room, and the couple pledged "I do" via video screens.
"Honestly, it was fairly difficult, being a man, having a pride to want to give my wife the best wedding ever," Kim said.
Fortunately, the pair had already seen each other in their gown and tuxedo when they took their engagement photos. And their wedding guests said that witnessing the Skype wedding was moving.
"Everybody said it was the best wedding ever," Oh said. "It was very memorable for both of us."
Memorable, but certainly not what Kim and Oh had planned.
Samuel may not have been there in person for the ceremony or the cake cutting, but Oh's bridesmaids stepped in to fill his shoes.
"Our friends and family were there. And this was all by (the) power of love," Oh said.
Now quarantined at home for the next six to eight weeks, the newlyweds are looking forward to taking their honeymoon to Paris -- together.
