TUBERCULOSIS: Wisconsin

The state of Wisconsin sees about 70 TB cases a year, according to Lorna Will, program director of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ Tuberculosis Program. The bacterial disease is not as deadly as it was at the turn of the 20th century due to antibiotics created after World War II, but Will said it is just as serious, and there are four to five TB-related deaths in Wisconsin a year.“It is very much as serious,” Will said. “It is just as transmittable as it used to be, but we just don’t see it as much as we used to.”
