Agricultural research to provide more productive and sustainable technologies to farmers and a policy framework that fosters market incentives for increasing production. These are two key determinants of positive agricultural performance in African agriculture. Steven Haggblade and Peter Hazell of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) come up with these conclusions in their book Successes in African Agriculture.
The authors present case studies of successful agricultural growth in Africa and the processes, practices, and policies needed for development. Case studies include farming of maize in East and Southern Africa, cassava in the middle belt of Africa, and cotton in West Africa.
