TUBERCULOSIS: South Carolina: 7 SC jail inmates had tuberculosis

Sep. 08, 2010
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Officials at a South Carolina jail are trying to contact some former inmates after learning that seven inmates had tuberculosis.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Wednesday that seven inmates at the Charleston County jail had tuberculosis between August 2009 and April 2010.
Sheriff's Maj. John Clark says officials are trying to find former inmates who might have been in close contact with those with the illness.
Clark says four of the seven inmates were diagnosed after they left the jail.
Clark says the former cellmates are being sent letters of instruction from the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
He says inmates showing symptoms of TB during booking are tested then.
Any inmate housed for up to 14 days receives a physical that includes a TB skin test.Read more: http://www.thesunnews.com/2010/09/08/1681052/7-sc-jail-inmates-had-tuberculosis.html#ixzz0zKBxlr1d
