The WHO/TDR funded project, MosqGuide, is to host a workshop at the upcoming ISBGMO11 in Argentina. The workshop will discuss the regulatory, ethical and the national decision making required for the potential use, in disease endemic countries, of genetically modified mosquitoes to control vector borne diseases, in particular dengue and malaria.
Two case studies will also be presented regarding the decisions leading up to the field release of GM mosquitoes. The aim of the workshop is to have interactive discussions and Mosqguide welcomes all interested participants but particularly scientists, decision makers and regulatory agency staff from disease endemic countries to participate
The workshop will be held on Nov 19th 2010 in conjunction with the International Symposium on the biosafety of genetically modified organisms meeting.
11th International Symposium on the Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms (15-20 November 2010, Buenos Aires, Argentina)
The International Society for Biosafety Research in conjunction with the local organizing committee in Argentina is pleased to announce the 11th International Symposium on the Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms (ISBGMO) to be held in Buenos Aires, Centro Cultural Borges - Galerias Pacifico. The theme of ISBGMO 11 is “The role of biosafety research in the decision making process”. This symposium will bring together scientists interested in sharing results and learning from other experts in the area of biosafety research and its application to regulatory decision-making. As such, a program of workshops and talks is being developed that will encourage the exchange of scientific experiences and ideas with a focus on how biosafety research supports regulatory processes especially risk assessments and ultimately science-based decisions
