Nigeria’s Poverty Ratio Rises to 70% of Population,

Paul Okolo - Jan 18, 2011
About 70 percent of Nigeria’s 150 million people live below the poverty line, the Daily Trust reported, citing Lamido Sanusi, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The figure rose from 54 percent previously, the Abuja-based newspaper said, without providing a comparative period.
Sanusi described the level of poverty as unacceptable because of the risk it poses to economic growth, according to the newspaper.
