Indonesia: malnutrition rates

Malnutrition is very threatened the children, for social and economic crisis hit Indonesia now Indonesian children at risk of malnutrition after famine due to lack of calories and famine due to lack of protein is rarely found now a child with more nutritional disorders found.

press conference organized by the Coalition for Healthy Indonesia about the campaign “The Importance of Child Nutrition” dr. Dini Latief MSc, from the Directorate General of Community Health, Depkeskesos said, although the prevalence of malnutrition has declined, from 8.1 percent of the 1.7 million infants who suffer from lack of nutrition in 1999 to 7.5 percent in 2000 based on a survey of Social national economic(SUSENAS) but the number is still comparatively high nominal, ie 160,000 children under five. The amount does not include children who suffer from micronutrient deficiencies, namely iron, iodine and vitamin A which causes eye dryness membrane binding due to a lack of vitamin A.
