MALARIA: East Africa: Malaria Fight to Go Beyond Mosquito Net Treatment

Screening Mosquito House Entry Points could reduce EndophagicFilariasis, arbovirus and malaria vectors, a Tanzanian new study reveals.
Scientists at Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) in Tanzania say screening of eaves or installation of ceilings may prove to be practical and affordable where existing house designs prove amenable to such modifications.

"This study confirms that across Africa, screening eaves protects households against important mosquito vectors of filariasis, Rift Valley Fever and O'Nyongnyong as well as malaria," said Sheila Ogoma, the lead researcher at IHI.

The study, conducted in Ulanga district, Morogoro region, sought to evaluate preferential points of entry of different mosquito species into houses.
