Nutrition in Emergencies
A Million children at risk of deadly malnutrition in the Sahel
A looming food crisis threatens a million children as shortages, price spikes, and drought affect thousands across the Sahel.More than 10 million people are at risk of food shortages across Africa’s Sahel region, including communities in Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. With Early Warning Systems on high alert, poor harvests across the region have contributed to food shortages and skyrocketing prices—cereal prices alone are 60 to 85 percent higher than their five year average—that threaten millions with hunger and malnutrition as tens of thousands of families exhaust their food reserves.

World Food Day 2012

World Food Day, which occurs every year on October 16th and is a worldwide event designed to increase awareness, promote understanding, and encourageAction Against Hunger.  Today, on World Food Day we at ACF-CA invite you to take a moment and learn a little about the life-saving work we are doing around the world in our daily quest to end world hunger.

Justice for Muttur

On 4 August 2006, 17 civilians, including aid workers of Action against Hunger were murdered in the town of Muttur, in Sri Lanka.
Our colleagues who were in the offices of ACF were brought to their knees and shot a bullet in the head. This massacre is the most dramatic crime ever committed against humanitarians.

None of the three national investigations launched in Sri Lanka since 2006 came to an answer. Evidence was voluntarily buried;  they did everything in their power to prevent justice from being served.
We will not accept that humanitarian workers dedicating their work to save lives are murdered in total impunity
We must act now!
The Human Rights Council of the United Nations will examine the human rights records of Sri Lanka on the 1st of November, in Geneva.
In this time of national reconciliation in Sri Lanka, following 26 years of civil war and 100,000 dead, it is our last chance for this war crime forgotten totally.
Call upon the members of the United Nations to put an end to impunity. For an UN independent investigation to be finally opened, sign this petition and share with your loved ones.

Voices from D.R. Congo: Bitondo and Baby Wabiwa

For a four-year old Congolese girl and her mother, hope and healing after a critical nutrition intervention from ACF.
For 29-year-old Congolese mother Bitondo Patience, malnutrition was a silent threat that attacked her daughter without obvious indicators. Her four-year-old, Wabiwa, showed signs of illness—vomiting, lack of appetite, running a temperature—but just what afflicted her was a mystery to Bitondo.
