MALNUTRITION: Pakistan: Govt coordinating measures aimed at reducing hunger, malnutrition

December 06, 2012 - Islamabad—Mr. Nadeem Afzal Chann, Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) while addressing on concluding session of Pak-Brazil International Seminar onFood Security & Poverty Alleviation as Chief Guest said that the govt is coordinating measures aimed at reducing hunger and malnutrition in country. He further said the present democratic govt is committed to improving people’s access to food, and helping the poorest of the poor through cash transfer under the Benazir Income Support Programme.

The seminar has been organized by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) and Brazil Embassy in Islamabad in collaboration with Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), World Food Programme (WFP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).

At this occasion, Mr. Moazam Jatoi, Minister of State (NFS&R), Mr. Alfredo Leoni, Ambassador Brazil to Pakistan, Mr. Ahmad Bakhsh Lehri, Secretary (MNFS&R) Mr. Abdul Basit Khan, Addl. Secretary, Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Chairman PARC and other Pak-Brazilian Experts also addressed the participants of the seminar.

Agriculture scientists and world-renowned experts termed the food security as global issue that could be overcome by multilateral cooperation aimed at streamlining distribution system.
